We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Rebekah Chan as an Associate Editor of Cha: An Asian Literary Journal.
In this role, Rebekah will work primarily on curating an ongoing section devoted to writing emerging from the intersection of Hong Kong and Canada. She will also work closely with the Editor-in-Chief on the journal’s wider editorial activities and initiatives, helping to shape Cha’s future development.
Rebekah is a writer from Toronto, where she is currently based. Her experiences of living and studying in Hong Kong, Singapore, Tokyo, and Canada have deepened her interest in questions of diasporic longing and belonging, and in the ways that place, movement, and cultural experience inform both identity and writing.
Through her work at Cha, Rebekah hopes to create space for conversations between the often distinct narratives of Asian diasporic and homeland writing, while paying particular attention to the connections, tensions, and crossings between them. Her appointment also reflects Cha’s longstanding commitment to bringing writers and literary communities in Asia into conversation with those of the wider Asian diaspora.
We are delighted to welcome Rebekah to the editorial team and look forward to the new ideas, perspectives, and voices she will bring to Cha.
